The 2013 theme is "Feelings." Activities to explore social-emotional development through books are designed especially for babies to 5-year-old children, and it will be fun for the whole family. It is a free event, and Ames Morning Rotary will give each family a feelings-related children's book to take home. Co-sponsors are Ames Morning Rotary Club, Rotary District 6000, Ames Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Ames Public Library, and Raising Readers in Story County.
The Ames Morning Rotary Club, as a main sponsor, annually posts albums of Step Into Storybook photos on its website.

The first Step Into Storybooks event was held on May 2, 2009. The interactive stations featured favorite children's books and outside there was a display of city vehicles.
