Raising Readers in Story County

StoryPals

StoryPals is an innovative program for four and five-year olds, which uses the evidence-based dialogic reading method. In dialogic reading, trained volunteers model reading books with questioning strategies and assist students in becoming the storytellers. For each child, the session occurs once per week (two students for twenty minutes at a time, a total of 6 students for an hour).

Training and materials will be provided. Volunteer tutors must be at least 14 years old. All volunteers will undergo a background check. Transportation to and from the tutoring site is the responsibility of the tutor. Sessions begin the week of February 13, 2023, and run through the week of April 17, 2023. Volunteer training occurs on the first day of the program without children present. Sessions will not meet the week of March 13-17 due to spring break.
