Story Pals Volunteer Applications

Our fall 2026 Story Pals programs will be hosted at three site locations: Central Elementary School in Nevada, Ames Community Preschool Center, and Northwood Preschool in Ames. Volunteers can join us for the entire program or participate as substitutes for more a more flexible schedule.

Story Pals pairs volunteers with preschool students to build confidence, strengthen literacy skills, and foster a love of reading in a supportive setting. Volunteers play a meaningful, hands-on role by: 

• Reading and holding conversation with up to two children

• Encouraging positive reading habits

• Supporting children as they expand vocabulary and critical thinking skills 

• Creating a warm, welcoming environment for young readers

Dates: Tentatively scheduled for September 23rd to December 9th

Days: Wednesdays

Time: Tentatively scheduled for 8:45 AM - 10:15 AM OR 12:45 PM - 2:15 PM

Days: Tuesdays AND Thursdays

Time: 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM OR 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM
